Develop new commitments or refresh current commitments

The Accountability Framework helps companies to:

  • Establish or refresh supply chain commitments in view of common expectations from a broad cross-section of civil society
  • Apply common terms, definitions, and metrics to link company policy to accepted approaches
  • Specify key commitment details related to halting deforestation, protecting other natural ecosystems, and respecting human rights

The Accountability Framework provides guidance on:

  • Assessing risk, establishing traceability, and managing supplier compliance and improvement processes
  • Following best practices in land use planning and long-term protection of forests and other natural ecosystems
  • Reconciling voluntary commitments with relevant legal frameworks
  • Identifying and addressing issues related to land rights of indigenous peoples and local communities
  • Remediation of past violations of commitments or other adverse impacts to natural ecosystems or human rights
