Discover how to manage supply chains with the AFi's online training platform

8 October 2024

Map your supply chains, increase traceability, and engage with suppliers to meet your goals.

Complex commodity supply chains make it challenging for companies to address risks and ensure that the materials in their supply chains were produced responsibly. For companies that source agricultural and forestry products (such as beef, palm oil, and soy), there is increasing pressure to ensure their business is not linked with deforestation, ecosystem conversion, and human rights violations.

To address potential legal and reputational risks, and meet their supply chain goals, companies need to understand the origins and compliance status of the materials they source. This requires robust supply chain mapping, traceability, and risk assessment, as well as direct engagement with suppliers, clear protocols to address non-compliance, and effective systems to remediate associated harms.

The AFi e-learning platform can help you upskill on supply chain management

The AFi e-learning platform is an online resource designed to help companies learn about using the Accountability Framework’s guidance to eliminate deforestation, conversion, and human rights violations from their business operations. The platform features modules on the seven key actions companies can take to achieve responsible supply chains, including a dedicated module on managing supply chains.

What’s included in the module Manage supply chains

The Manage supply chains module features a short video introduction outlining the key elements of supply chain management, including traceability, risk assessment, supplier engagement, and non-compliance. The module includes four lessons with interactive content, expert insights, and knowledge checks, focused on the following areas:

  • understanding supply origins

  • managing supplies and suppliers

  • managing non-compliance

  • remediation of social and environmental harms

Users will also be signposted to relevant resources for further learning, such as the AFi’s how-to guide on supplier codes of conduct and Operational Guidance on Supply Chain Management

How can staff benefit from completing this module?

Learners that register for and complete the Manage supply chains module can learn about the Accountability Framework’s guidance on:

  • Using risk assessments and traceability to increase their understanding of their supply base, and the origins and compliance of the materials they source.

  • Establishing supplier engagement approaches, communication mechanisms, and incentives for suppliers to meet company sourcing requirements.

  • Managing non-compliance and key steps for addressing non-compliant suppliers.
