About the Event

The Accountability Framework initiative is a collaborative effort to accelerate progress and improve accountability in meeting supply chain commitments to halt deforestation, respect land rights, and protect human rights. Led by a coalition of international and producing-country environmental and social NGOs, the initiative is developing common definitions, norms, and guidelines for effective implementation and monitoring of these commitments.

Join this session to hear the latest on this initiative; understand the process, timeline, and opportunities to participate in building the Accountability Framework throughout 2018; and learn how your organization will be able to apply the Framework to help meet its sustainability objectives.

The Accountability Framework initiative is a collaborative effort to establish common definitions, norms, and good practices for delivering on companies’ ethical supply chain commitments. The Framework will fill in vital implementation details that are missing from high-level pledges, while helping to align a multitude of other efforts to implement commitments, foster transparency, and track progress. The Framework is being developed by a coalition of leading environmental and social NGOs together with private companies, government, and other stakeholders. This event will introduce the initiative and present a first draft of the Accountability Framework core document, which outlines approaches to key implementation topics such as traceability, risk management, treatment of non-compliance, monitoring, verification, reporting and disclosure, remedy, land use planning and management, and company engagement with government and in landscape and jurisdictional initiatives. The majority of the session will be dedicated to discussion, inviting input from participants on the draft core document and how the Framework and initiative overall can best support efforts to address deforestation, human rights, and other key issues in responsible supply chains.
