AFi welcomes new member: Conservation International

19 March 2024

The AFi Coalition grows with the addition of Conservation International

The Accountability Framework initiative (AFi) is pleased to welcome Conservation International as the newest member of the AFi Coalition.

A collaboration between 25 environmental and human rights NGOs, the AFi Coalition works to protect forests, other natural ecosystems, and human rights in agricultural and forestry commodity supply chains. Our shared commitment led to the creation of the Accountability Framework, a practical roadmap designed to help companies set goals, take action, and track progress in their supply chains.

Conservation International brings with it multiple programs of work closely aligned with the AFi’s scope. Among them are the Center for Communities and Conservation, which incorporates a people-centred approach to conservation. Conservation International also works with companies in agricultural supply chains, communities in producing landscapes, and local teams and partners to link sustainable production with conservation of natural areas to generate lasting benefits for people and planet.

Upon joining the AFi Coalition, Conservation International Vice President Sustainable Production John Buchanan said: “Movement towards sustainable agriculture worldwide will be slowed if key stakeholders are not aligned around basic definitions, frameworks, and pragmatic management processes. The AFi has convened leading organisations to distil tools and clear guidance that will accelerate improvements in sustainable agriculture and forestry sectors globally. We are thrilled to be part of this effort.”

“Conservation International is a natural fit within our Coalition,” said AFi Program Manager Karen Steer. “With its integrated approach to conservation and human rights, we see many opportunities for advancing our shared goals. We’re particularly excited to draw on Conservation International’s expertise in our focus this year to update the Accountability Framework’s Operational Guidance documents.”
