Learn about setting supply chains goals with the AFi e-learning platform

5 September 2024

Clear, data-driven goals are the first step towards achieving responsible commodity supply chains.

No matter where they sit in the supply chain, companies across the globe are facing increased pressure to demonstrate that they are operating in a responsible, sustainable manner.

To meet climate and nature targets, companies must eliminate deforestation and ecosystem conversion from their commodity supply chains. The first step towards achieving this is setting clear goals. These help to set expectations for internal teams, signal commitments to investors, and create systems to measure and report on progress.

Ambitious goals also help companies to achieve science-based targets, meet voluntary commitments, and begin their journey to regulatory compliance.

The AFi e-learning platform can help you upskill on setting supply chain goals

The AFi e-learning platform is an online resource designed to help companies learn about the Accountability Framework and how its guidance can help them protect forests, natural ecosystems, and human rights. The platform features modules highlighting the key actions that companies need to take to achieve more responsible supply chains.

This includes a dedicated module on how to set and strengthen existing goals for their commodity supply chains.

What’s included in the module Set and strengthen goals?

The Set and strengthen goals module features a short video introduction which outlines what a supply chain goal is, what it should consist of, and how it supports the creation and implementation of responsible supply chain policies. The module includes three lessons with interactive content, explanatory videos from experts, and knowledge checks focused on the following topics:

  • creating goals to eliminate deforestation and conversion
  • setting targets that fully respect human rights
  • ensuring that supply chain goals have the correct scope and specification

Learners will also be signposted to related resources, such as the AFi How-to guide on writing an ethical supply chain policy and the AFi Self-assessment Tool.

How can staff benefit from completing this module?

The insight gained in this module will help companies to:

  • Upskill personnel on what robust supply chain goals for no-deforestation, no-conversion and no human rights violations should include.
  • Set new goals or strengthen existing goals.
  • Access additional AFi resources to support the creation of supply chain goals.
