The Framework calls for companies to establish strong human rights commitments in accordance with international instruments. These include the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, Fundamental Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Core Principle 2 specifies what a company should include in a commitment or policy to respect human rights, with a focus on the rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and workers.

Consistent with a due diligence approach, the Framework guides companies to identify adverse impacts to human rights; act on these findings by ceasing, preventing, or mitigating these impacts; and provide for or cooperate in remediation when appropriate. Several of the Framework’s Operational Guidance documents identify best practices for these activities.

The topic summary on human rights linked above provides an overview of the Framework’s positions and guidance on setting and implementing goals to respect human rights.
