Webinar: Transforming meat supply chains to end deforestation
7 May 2025
The AFi and Coalition member Mighty Earth co-hosted a webinar to discuss ways companies are achieving deforestation- and conversion-free meat supply chains.
As the EUDR deadline approaches and UNFCCC COP30 in the Brazilian Amazon grows closer, 2025 is a pivotal year for combatting commodity-driven deforestation and conversion of other valuable natural ecosystems. Despite commitments from companies and industry associations, the rearing of cattle and production of soy for animal feed continue to threaten forests and other natural ecosystems, as well as the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Commodity production is also a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, accelerating global heating.
Leading actors across the food system—including producers, retailers, investors, and civil society groups—are increasing ambitions, implementing strategies, and delivering impact for people and nature. This webinar will explore ways companies are achieving deforestation- and conversion-free meat supply chains and examine the strategies they are using to engage with their suppliers and other stakeholders to drive industry-wide progress. Panellists will also discuss strategies for reducing the carbon footprint of meat production, such as by cutting methane emissions and transitioning to plant-based proteins.
