What is the Accountability Framework?
The Accountability Framework is a roadmap to help companies protect forests, natural ecosystems, and human rights within commodity supply chains. It offers an integrated approach to address deforestation and associated environmental and social impacts linked to the production of agricultural and forestry commodities. It consists of three components: Core Principles, Definitions, and Operational Guidance.
Core Principles
A set of principles organised around seven actions companies need to take to achieve responsible commodity supply chains.
Definitions
Harmonised definitions of key terms and concepts used in the Accountability Framework Core Principles and Operational Guidance.
Operational Guidance
Detailed guidance on how to put responsible supply chain commitments and policies into practice, drawing on the Core Principles and definitions.
Who can use the Accountability Framework?
The Framework can be used by companies that produce and/or source agricultural and forestry commodities.
Its guidance may also be useful to financial institutions, industry and multi-stakeholder groups, and reporting and assessment initiatives to develop harmonised guidelines and metrics.
