CJ Selecta
Operating in Brazil, CJ Selecta is one of the world’s largest exporters of soy products. It supplies customers in 39 countries with ingredients for food, animal feed, and biofuels. To address risks associated with its soy supply chains, CJ Selecta has applied the Accountability Framework with the support of AFi Coalition members Imaflora and WWF.
The company’s Sustainability Policy includes a commitment to deforestation- and conversion-free soy, which has strong alignment with the Accountability Framework. It defines scope, targets, supplier requirements, practical implementation tools, and governance. The policy also applies to all sourcing regions, activities, and operations in the soy supply chain, including direct and indirect suppliers. In addition, the company has established cutoff dates after which deforestation is considered non-compliant with its policy.
Further to establishing its commitment to a deforestation- and conversion-free soy supply chain, CJ Selecta’s policy includes the elements needed to make it operational. The policy covers the company’s approaches to traceability; risk assessment; stakeholder engagement; monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV); collaboration; and policy advocacy.
To meet stakeholder expectations for transparency, CJ Selecta publishes public reports on the company’s progress towards deforestation-free supply chains. It provides information about levels of traceability, achievement of sourcing targets, verification results, and use of certification programmes.
“As a commodity buyer, CJ Selecta has a role to play in fostering sustainable soy production and protecting forests and other natural ecosystems. The Accountability Framework helped us to understand how to set and strengthen our commitments to deforestation-free soy, as well as identify how to turn those commitments into action across our Brazilian supply chains.”
